How we work

A clear route from first ideas to final finish.

  1. 01

    Survey

We inspect the property, understand its condition and discuss what should be retained, repaired or transformed.

  2. 02

    Specify

Together we agree priorities, finishes, budget allowances and a sensible sequence for the work.

  3. 03

    Coordinate

We manage every trade, delivery and inspection so progress stays organised and standards remain consistent.

  4. 04

    Complete

Each room is finished, checked and refined before a thorough handover of your renewed home.

The result

A renewed home that feels calmer, warmer and better suited to modern living.

Every project is handled with practical advice, clear communication and the level of finish expected from an experienced local builder.

Common questions

Full Refurbishments FAQs

Practical answers to help you understand the permissions, programme and management of your project.

Does a full refurbishment need planning permission?

Internal refurbishment alone often does not need planning permission, but listed buildings, external changes, structural alterations and changes of use may require additional consent. Building Regulations can also apply. We help identify the approvals relevant to the agreed work.

How long does a full refurbishment take?

A whole-home refurbishment is normally programmed over several stages, and the duration varies with the property condition, structural changes, services and finishes. After the survey and specification, we set out a project-specific programme rather than relying on a generic estimate.

Can we stay at home during a full refurbishment?

For a limited or phased refurbishment, staying may be possible. For a whole-house strip-out, major service upgrades or work affecting every bathroom and kitchen, temporary accommodation is usually more practical. We will explain the disruption before the programme is agreed.

How is the refurbishment quotation prepared?

The quotation is based on a site survey, drawings where available, an agreed room-by-room scope and selected finishes or clearly stated allowances. Defining these details early helps reduce uncertainty and keeps later decisions transparent.

Will Gibson Builders manage all the trades?

Yes. We coordinate the building team, specialist trades, deliveries and inspections in the correct sequence. We also provide progress updates and manage the finishing, checks and snagging needed for a complete handover.
